In preparation for major changes in their organization our client undertook a radical rationalisation programme which led to the divestment of a number of significant buildings in its head office estate.
As a further development in our clients workplace efficiency drive, AWA were appointed to review the feasibility of applying Advanced Working concepts within a number of significant Business Units, leading to additional rationalisation of accommodation.
Over the subsequent years AWA has been working with the client on the assessment and introduction of advanced workstyles to the initial phases of approximately 2,000 staff in four key buildings and leading the development and delivery of a change support programme. The scope of AWA's work included:
- Engagement - designing and facilitating workshops attended by senior business leaders to explain the benefits advanced working, the process to be followed and obtain input on key business aims and objectives;
- Data Gathering - conducting a series of activities aimed at understanding how the organisation operates currently and to establish its key needs for future operations - the studies included:
- Workplace use survey to establish how workplaces are occupied through time
- Workplace effectiveness survey to establish staff perceptions of how the workplace supports them in their work activities
- Business needs interviews to establish current and future organisational requirements
- Infrastructure reviews to establish the capabilities of the buildings and technologies and their ability to support advanced working practices - Proposition - preparing a statement of requirements for each unit, conceptual designs for the work environment and infrastructure required to support the needs of the business and its people, identification of the behaviours necessary in order that the chosen workstyles can be operated effectively, and the development of a plan and business case for the subsequent stages of the project;
- Implementation - supporting the fit-out team to assist with their understanding of the Proposition in terms of the physical, information and service environments required and monitoring implementation to ensure the integrity of the Proposition was maintained;
- Change Support - designing and facilitating as series of workshops and other support measures aimed at preparing people for the process of transition from their current to future work styles and environments, and the appropriate behavioural changes required;
- Evaluation - following a period of operation conducting an assessment of the new workstyles and work environments, facilitating a workshop to review the key findings, all aimed at identifying and implementing any refinements that may be required.
