The Environment Agency - Thames Regional Head Office

Here is another case study researched and written by AWA for the BCO's report 'ICT and Offices, practised realities and their business benefits'.

The Environment Agency (EA) is the leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales and employs over 10,000 people. The Head Office is based in Bristol and London. Thames Region employs around 1,100 people over ten sites, with the Thames Regional Head Office based in Reading accounting for some 390 of these.

In early 1999 the staff of the Thames Regional Head Office were accommodated in four buildings. As part of its ongoing efficiency drive, EA was changing its organisation structure and seeking to rationalise its property portfolio in Reading. It was looking at a range of flexible working options including homeworking and the potential for a variety of flexible working arrangements.
