    What is Flexible Working?

Here is the UK Government’s definition: “Flexible working is a way of working that suits an employee’s needs, e.g. having flexible start and finish times, or working from home.” So this is in part about where people work, but it is also about the hours and patterns of work. The right to apply for Flexible Working exists under law in the UK and often the arrangements agreed become contractual between employer and employee.

The terms agile and flexible working are often used interchangeably and there are no universally agreed definitions. The truth is, an agile workplace commonly embraces flexible working to enhance the employee workplace experience.

    Flexible Working Trends

At Advanced Workplace Associates, we have seen a steady increase in the level of interest and of adoption of flexible styles of working. We can confidently say the number of UK organisations that are implementing agile environments continues to grow and flexible working continues to gather momentum. 53% of full time employees said that flexible working is encouraged at their workplace – according to POWWOWnow, and levels of takeup are growing. It is also recorded that 67% of those surveyed wish they could adopt flexible working.=

Ultimately, the desire is growing and with it comes the opportunity to introduce more agility in the workplace – benefitting both organisation and individuals. It is also an opportunity to review your workplace management approach to ensure this evolves alongside the changing needs of the organisation.

Here at AWA, we walk the talk. Our organisation was set up 25 years ago along agile lines and our associates, who are all Not only are they engaged, but we work hard to ensure that we have all the ingredients that knowledge worker productivity requires.
