Define the future
Defining what the future of work will look like will act to motivate your team. Consider this, how hard would you work towards something without knowing what the end result would look like? If you lack the insight and understanding, then you’ll also lack the motivation to strive for the goal – and it’s the same for your team. Furthermore, it essential to ensure you have absolute clarity across the team. It is human nature to require motivation, and giving people a sense of belonging and meaning can positively impact their performance.
Communicate, Communicate, Communicate!
In our experience, we find that the importance of communication is sometimes forgotten or taken for granted. Commonly, our workplace consultants find that there may be an failure in communication across teams or levels of management. By failure, we mean a lack of clarity in team objectives, a lack of role clarity and even sometimes an undefined standard of work. This fact alone has the power to inhibit understanding and dilute perspective. Particularly for change programme goals or workplace transformations, a uniform understanding that spans across the entire team will require high quality internal communication skills and support and guidance from senior team members who may be more familiar with the program. In our experience at AWA, we have found that in the past many initiatives fail due to ineffective communication and change management. Without aligning team perspectives, the employees are unlikely to show emotional investment in collective objectives, rather, they will shift their priorities towards personal work goals at the expense of others.
Some business goals may be short term (perhaps only a matter of months), but others may be longer term and may be ongoing.
