Industry challenges
This sector is currently experiencing huge changes as it seeks to create greater energy efficiency and sustainability. It is an exciting time for development and innovation. Rising costs, however, and a volatile market can lead to challenges in a sector heavily influenced by the global political, resource and economic contexts.
Reinvention
With changes to environmental policy, and pressure to combat climate change, the energy sector is in a period of radical change. The result is a cultural shift to align people, place and technology to a new vision. The key question is: how can the workplace experience evolve to ensure employees remain connected in new and meaningful ways?
Aging workforce
The energy industry workforce has grown consistently younger over the past decade. At the same time, a significant percentage of the energy industry employees will be approaching retirement over the next few years. The younger generation has different expectations not only around pay and benefits, but also in regards to flexibility, career purpose and where and how they learn. What can our workplace provide to attract and retain young talent?
Diversity, equity and inclusion
The sector remains one of the least gender diverse, with women currently making up only 22% of the workforce. Attracting and retaining women and minorities with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics backgrounds is essential to tackling the energy challenges of the future and creating inclusive, authentic company cultures.
