MANAGING THE VIRTUAL WORKFORCE

What is really happening with the virtual workforce around the world?

We invite you to a series of short discussions, with global business leaders, that will highlight the scientific truths to answer this question.

In these sessions, we will reveal the most comprehensive, up-to-date and unbiased assessment of ‘peer reviewed’ global research on the factors which most impact teams that work in a distributed way.

SUMMARY OF PAST EVENTS

Managing the Virtual Workforce Launch

Who is on the panel?

  • Peter Haigh, CEO at Mintel
  • Kerry Smith, Director of People & Organisational Development at British Heart Foundation
  • Andrew Mawson, Co-Founder of Advanced Workplace Associates
  • Karen Plum, Director of Research and Development at Advanced Workplace Associates

Our launch event hosted discussion about what is taking place right now in our guest panellist’s organisations. They candidly shared their challenges and successes to highlight what others can do in their organisations. We look at what the research tells us are the key factors for increasing the productivity and cohesiveness of virtual workforces.

The Perfect Virtual Leader

Who is on the panel?

  • Charmaine Griffiths, Chief Executive at British Heart Foundation
  • Andrew Mawson, Co-Founder of Advanced Workplace Associates
  • Karen Plum, Director of Research and Development at Advanced Workplace Associates

As organisations shift to more virtualised organisational models, leadership and people skills come under the spotlight. Every leader needs to be your best leader. In this session we explore what the perfect virtual leader might look like and how we might bring all leaders up to the standards of the best.

During this session we expanded on what the research had to say about managing virtual teams. We identified what characteristics would make the perfect virtual leader. Charmaine shared with those in attendance how they work towards this in her organisation.

Managing Trustworthiness in a Virtual Organisation

Who is on the panel?

  • Peter Haigh, CEO at Mintel
  • Andrew Mawson, Co-Founder of Advanced Workplace Associates
  • Karen Plum, Director of Research and Development at Advanced Workplace Associates

Trust, the vital component that binds organisations together. Trust enables information to flow and energy to be maximised but few organisations proactively manage ‘trust’. Our session explored what can be done to manage and maintain trust when we’re all working away.

We asked, what does trust look like and how do we build it virtually? What should leaders be doing differently to encourage trust? Why trust is so key to workforce productivity? Are there new skills needed and can we train for them?

Managing Momentum in a Virtual World

Who is on the panel?

  • Phil Jones, Managing Director of Brother UK
  • Andrew Mawson, Co-Founder of Advanced Workplace Associates
  • Karen Plum, Director of Research and Development at Advanced Workplace Associates

Phil is known as a leading thinker in the world of business. He is the Managing Director of the global company, Brother UK. Under his leadership, they’ve been recognised as one of the leading employers in the UK and named by The Sunday Times (2014) as one of the 100 Best Places to Work. Earlier this year they became only the second company in the UK to achieve Investors in People Platinum status.

This discussion will focus around the ‘vision thing’ and explores how organisations can shift to outcome management to make the virtual world work better.
